Originally, Samulnori is derived from 'Pungmulnori' (also known as 'Nongak,' which is music played to liven up special occasions in agricultural communities). It is a modern form of traditional Korean music that focuses on the four instruments: kkwaenggwari (small gong), jing (large gong), janggu (hourglass drum), and buk (barrel drum), using rhythms from Pungmul. This unique course offers an opportunity to learn about the definition and history of Samulnori, a traditional yet newly developed form of music, and to experience Korean traditional music firsthand by playing the instruments and rhythms from Pungmul.
